John Pastor

Sept. 12, 1925 – Aug. 9, 2004 John Pastor, 78, of Crestview Drive, South Bend, Ind., passed away of natural causes on Monday, Aug.9, in Regency Place Nursing home. John was born Sept.12, 1925, in South Bend, to John M.and Lena (Mliner) Pastor, who preceded him in death. On June 25, 1949, John married the former Ms.Rosemary Milavecz in South Bend.

Surviving are his wife, Rosemary Pastor of South Bend;two daughters, Michele Diltz (John) of Kissimee, Fla., and Cheryl VanDerHeyden (Carl) of Granger, Ind. Also surviving are four grandchildren, John Diltz (Erica) of Kissimee, Angela, Olivia and Rocco Roviaro, all of Granger, along with a brother, Arthur J.Pastor (Emily) of Fort Myers, Fla.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m.Wednesday, Aug.11, in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola, Ind., where a Rosary was given at 4:30 p.m.Reverend Terry Fisher will officiate services which will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Aug.12, in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, where VFW Post #360 and American Legion Post #161 will give military honors.

A graduate of Washington High School, class of 1943, John went on to attend the University of Notre Dame before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps, obtaining the rank of staff sergeant.John was discharged honorably in 1951.

He was employed by the South Bend Police Department for 20 years before his retirement in 1973.After his retirement, John and his wife opened the LaSalle West Coffee Shop and “John’s”Deluxe Sandwich Shop.The restaurants were owned and operated for over 20 years by John and his wife. John had a wonderful sense of humor and never knew a stranger.Many enjoyed his cooking and conversation throughout the many years at the restaurant.John was also a dedicated and hard-working man, loving and affectionate to all, especially to his wife, children and grandchildren, who consider him to have been the best Grandpa in the world.He will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Real Services, 1151 S.Michigan St., South Bend, IN 46601.
