Emery Joseph Nagy - Class Of 1943 VIEW PROFILE

Emery Joseph Nagy

Emery was born Dec. 9, 1924, in South Bend, IN, the son of the Peter and Rosalia (Toth) Nagy. He served in the United States Army in the 69th Infantry during World War II. Emery Nagy holds three degrees from Indiana University: Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Music Education, and Masters of Science in Education. He played in the Indiana University Orchestra and also taught trumpet as a graduate assistant.

Emery taught band for five years in Illinois. He moved to Evansville and continued teaching bands and orchestras in the middle and high schools for thirty five years. He gave private lessons on trumpet. The Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra has a chair established in memory of Emery and Everett Northcut - two private trumpet teachers in Evansville.

Emery met Patricia while attending Indiana University. They were married 62 years and celebrated every year with love and joy.

Emery retired from Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation to Fairfield Glade, Tennessee where he and Pat filled their lives with friends, golf, church, choir and involvement in various musical groups including the Cumberland County Community Band.

Emery Nagy was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Amanda Ottway; sisters, Mary Nagy, Annie Nagy, Rose Magera, Catherine Michalski and Mary Magley; and brothers, Joseph Nagy, Peter Nagy, Stephen Nagy, Frank Nagy and John Nagy.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann (Baugh) Nagy of Fairfield Glade, TN; son, James Nagy (Ann) of Evansville; son-Stephen Nagy (Diane) of Indianapolis; daughter, Karen Myers (Bob) of Evansville, Constance Ottway of Knoxville, TN; brother, Kenneth Nagy of Niles, MI; sister, Anna Fodrocy-South Bend; 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
