Richard S. Markiewicz, 56, of Kokomo, formerly of South Bend, died at 1 :45 a.m. today at St. Joseph Hospital, Kokomo. He was born on March 27, 1926, in South Bend and moved to Kokomo in 1950.

On Aug. 18, 1951, he married Henrietta Piechocki in South Bend. She survives with four daughters, Elise Ring, Diane Ridgeway, Ann and Mary Markiewicz all of Kokomo; three sons, Paul and Mark both of Kokomo and Chris of Muncie; seven grandchildren; and his mother and stepfather, Katherine and Joseph Muszynski of South Bend.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Kokomo. Rev. Robert Moran, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Ellers Mortuary, Kokomo.

Markiewicz was a self-employed chemical engineer and representative of the Wat-con Corp. in South Bend. He was a 1950 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 656, where he was a past grand knight and fourth degree past navigator.

Markiewicz was the organizer of Kokomo Right to Life; a past president of the National Association of Power Engineers; a member of the Kokomo Engineering Society; and the Polish Cultural Society of Indianapolis; and president of Travelers Protective Association Post No. S, Kokomo. He was a veteran of World War II, member of American Legion Post No. 6, the Army and Navy Post of South Bend.
