Steven Michael Egyhazi - Class Of 1943 VIEW PROFILE

 

Stephen M. Egyhazi

MISHAWAKA Former St Joseph County Assessor Stephen M. Egyhazi died at 11:35 am Tuesday, July 27, 1993, at his 14th Street home in Mishawaka after an illness. He was 69. Mr. Egyhazi, who formerly lived in South Bend, retired from county government at the end of 1986 after two terms as county assessor had and 40 years of government service, most of it in die assessing field. He also served two terms as county auditor and one year through appointment as county recorder. He was a deputy in the Portage Township assessors office for 22 years.

Mr. Egyhazi was bom Dec. 13, 1923, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident He was an Army veteran of World War II and was wounded in action in 1945 in the Philippines. He was for a time paralyzed from the neck down and was hospitalized for a year before recovering. He received a number of medals for military service, including four Bronze Stars.

On June 1, 1946, in South Bend, he married Clara J. DeLodder. She survives, with three daughters, Nancy Krzyzewski of Mishawaka, Janet Muoio of New York, and Clare Sipe of Gales Feny, Conn.; four sons, Michael Thomas, and Steven, all of South Bend, and Andrew of Mishawaka; eight grandchildren; four sisters, Elizabeth Wolfram of Watertown, Wis, and Frances Mittermeyer, Martha Egyhazi and Florence Wisnesld, all of South Bend; and four brothers, John, Joseph, William, and Cart, all of South Bend.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360, American Legion Post 50, Retired Indiana Public Employees Association and Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. He had been a longtime president of the St Joseph County Hungarian Civic and Democratic Club.

Services will be at 10 am Friday in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Thursday in Zahoran Funeral Home, where the parish rosary will be at 3 pm Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St Joseph County Inc
