Raymond A. DeCook

Raymond A. DeCook, 76, of Glenn Road, South Bend, Ind., passed away on Sunday, Jan. 1 3, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend.Mr. DeCook was bom on July 20, 1925, in South Bend, to Rene and Julia (Van De Walle) DeCook, and was a lifelong resident of the area. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by a sister, Arlene Cwidak.

On NoV. 23, 1946, in Sacred Heart Church, South Bend, he married Sophie Dhaeze, his wife of 55 years, who survives. He is also survived by a son, Lawrence (Debra) DeCook of Mishawaka, Ind.; two grandchildren, Todd DeCook of Houston, Texas, and Danielle (Chad) Harper of San Clemente, Calif.; a great-grandson, Jeffrey Harper of San Clemente; five sisters, Ann Molnar, Alice Dhaeze, Audrey Janowczyk and Antoinette Youts, all of South Bend, and Agnes Bojoraas of Pasadena, Texas; two brothers, Albert DeCook of South Bend and Andrew DeCook of Palm Coast, Fla.; and by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. DeCook worked for the U.S. Post Office for 20 years before retiring in 1986. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a 50-year member of American' Legion Post 50, and was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church," South Bend. Mr. DeCook was an avid fisherman in his youth and in his later years loved woodworking

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., today, Jan. 15, in the Kamewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. Jan. 16, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery. There will be a military service at the cemetery conducted by VFW Post 360.
