SOUTH BEND - Roger R. Cornelis, 87, passed away at home on Saturday, December 22. Roger was born on August 27, 1925, in Mishawaka, to Theofiel and Mary (Derho) Cornelis. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by two brothers, Robert and Richard.
On April 16, 1955, in South Bend, he married the former Ann M. Davidson. Surviving are his loving wife and caregiver for the past four years, Ann of South Bend; daughter, Sandy (Terry) Mann of Arlington, TX; two grandchildren, Michael and Michelle; and a nephew, Kenneth Cornelis of South Bend.
Roger was a captain for the South Bend Fire Department for 29 years before he retired in 1987. He was a veteran of the United States Navy where he was a Signal Man during WW II, a member of American Legion, a charter member of VFW Post 8748 and the BK Club. Roger enjoyed going to the Blue Chip Casino, where he was always a winner.
Visitation for Roger will be on Friday, December 28, from 12 to 2 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Kevin Bauman officiating.
Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend
