SOUTH BEND Carl A. Benko, 87, of Burton, MI, formerly of South Bend, passed away at 5:54 pm Monday, November 28, 2011, in Genesis Health Park, Grand Blanc, Ml.
Carl was born on October 9, 1924, in South Bend, to Carl and Irene (Nagy) Benko. He was employed by Studebaker, South Bend Sewage Treatment and Flint Sewage Treatment, and was a World War II Army veteran.
On June 7, 1947, in South Bend, he married the former Margaret M. Naessens, who died on October 21 , 2007. Carl was also preceded in death by a son, Bruce Benko; a sister Irene Fershin; a half sister, Mary Pacay; and 6 half-brothers, Alex Sokol, John Sokol, Elmer Sokol, Steve Sokol, Timer Sokol and Julius Sokol.
Surviving are a daughter, Maureen (Stephen) Juno of Flushing, Ml; two sons, James (Susanna) Benko of Burton, Ml, and Carl (Lora) Benko of Davison, Ml; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Friday, December 2, 2011, in Our Lady of Hungary Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 today in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
