Chester Frank Martinczak
Mishawaka – Chester Frank Martinczak, 89, passed away at 4:15am on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 in Hospice House, South Bend. Chet was born on April 12, 1922 in South Bend to the late Frank M. and Frances (Pyclik) Martinczak. He was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Richard and Clem Martinczak.
On June 3, 1944 he married Alice (Briggs) in St. Mary's National Catholic Church, she survives along with their nephews, Michael (Kathy) Martinczak of South Bend, Gordon (Becky) Martinczak of South Bend, Charles Green and Sheldon Green of Crete, IL; niece, Eileen Koth of South Carolina; nephews-in-law, John Ullery and Jerry Lacy, both of South Bend; sister-in-law, Alice Martinczak of South Bend; and by his loving companion, Cher II.
Chet honorably served his country in the United States Navy during WWII in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. He retired from Studebaker and AM General. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 320 and American Legion 357. He was a parishioner of St. Mary's National Catholic Church, where he was treasurer for over 50 years. Chet enjoyed golfing, gardening, Tiffany stained glass lamps, and taking cruises. He also was a Notre Dame fan.
