George P Cleppe - Class Of 1941 VIEW PROFILE

George P. Cleppe

MISHAWAKA - George P. Cleppe, 85, departed this life on Saturday, March 15, 2008, in Hospice House. He was born in Ursel, Belgium, on April 23, 1922, the son of Achiel R. and Alice (Leps) Cleppe, and came to this country as an infant. He served in the Army during World War II, being inducted in 1942 and discharged in 1946. Assigned to the 43rd Coastal Artillery Battalion, his service was primarily in the Pacific Command in the Admiralty Islands.

On August 21, 1948, in South Bend, Indiana, he was united in marriage with Virginia Palmiter, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Barb De Metz (Don), and their daughter, Kaylie, as well as their daughter, Susan O'Conner (Terry), and their daughters, Courtney Champlin (Steve) and Katie Wright (Scott). In addition his four great-grandchildren, Michael Champlin and Maya, Wilson and Eliza Jane Wright, also survive.

He was predeceased by his sister, Yvonne Kaluzny, but is survived by his brother, Robert (Alice) Cleppe.

George's career covered a number of years in the men's clothing business where he had worked for the former Rasmussen's Men's Store and retired in 1988 from Redwood & Ross. George was a loving husband and extraordinary father. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joys of his life. He loved the outdoors, taking care of his yard and flowers, and especially flying the American flag. He was loved by everyone who knew him.
