John W. Grembowicz Sr.

Jan 31, 1924 — May 28, 2001

John W. Grembowicz, 77, of North O'Brien St., South Bend, died at 1:55 p.m. Monday in his residence. He was born January 31, 1924, in South Bend, and was the son of Lawrence and Maryanna (Winter) Grem-bowicz. Mr. Grembowicz retired in 1986 from the Bendix Corporation after 44 years of service.

On November 20, 1948, in South Bend he married Mary Ann Bejma who survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Susan Kobek of South Bend, Patricia Grembowicz of Elkhart, IN, and Victoria (Rick) Wise of South Bend; four sons, Lawrence (Terryl) Grembowicz, John (Nancy) Grembowicz, Jr.. Joseph Grembowicz. all of South Bend and Thomas (Nancy) Grembowicz of Fishers, IN; nine grandchildren, Kenny, Emily, John III, Willie, Katie Michael, Lindzy, Nicholas and Travis, and one sister, Gertrude Matuszak of South Bend. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Tillie Osmanski, Jane Karpinski, Stephanie Grzeszkowiak and Helen Gawronski and one brother, Matthew Gregg.

Family and friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today in the ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a wake service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1520 Vassar Avenue, South Bend. IN 46628 with burial to follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery.

Mr. Grembowicz was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, St. Joseph. Young Men's Society, American Legion Pulaski Post #357, Z.B. Falcon Nest #80 and a recipient of the Gold Legion of Honor. Z.B. Falcon Conservation Club and had been with the 442 Troop Carries of the Army Air Force.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 36637 or Camp Millhouse, 25600 Kelly Road, South Bend. IN 46614.
