South Bend - Dorothy A Sommer, 84, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2019 with her family at her side.

Dorothy was born July 12, 1935 in South Bend to the late Joseph and Mary (Hadary) Lichkay.

On May 5, 1956 Dorothy married the love of her life Leonard E. Sommer whom survives, along with their children, Kenneth (Susan) Sommer and David (Vicki) Sommer; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Ann McMahon, Betty Lou Kulwicki; and brother, William Lichkay.

Dorothy was President of her sorority Kappa Kappa Kappa and a long-time parishioner of St. Anthony Catholic Church. She enjoyed going to the Elks Lodge with her husband and together they would travel throughout the West and Southwest. She was an amazing cook, and was known for her chicken paprikash and stuffed cabbage.

Dorothy was wonderful at sewing; she would make clothes for herself and her granddaughters. She was very crafty and enjoyed ceramics and so much more.

Visitation for Dorothy will be Monday July 22,2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. with a Rosary to be prayed at 6:00 pm. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at 10:00 am, also at the funeral home.
