Joyce L. (Hines) Whaling

Nov. 14, 1934 – June 10, 2004

Joyce L. Whaling, 69, of Irish Hills, South Bend, Ind., passed away at noon on Thursday, June 10, in her home. She was born on Nov.14, 1934, in Peru, Ind., to John E. and Margaret (Gaiser) Hines, who preceded her in death.

On June 7, 1953, in Indianapolis, Ind., she married Robert E. Whaling Jr., who passed away on May 1, 1992. Joyce had lived here for six years, coming from Indianapolis, Ind.

Surviving her are her children, Kevin Whaling of Indianapolis, Katherine A. (Joe) Fitzgerald of Indianapolis, Daniel L. Whaling of Tampa, Fla., Jeffrey A. Whaling of Tampa and Rebecca J. (Ben) Benefiel of Chandler, Ariz.; grandchildren, Brandy, Danielle, Chelsea, Jessica, Rachael, Jennifer, Bridget, Kyra and Katie Jo; a sister, Linda Ciesiolka of Mishawaka, Ind.; and brothers, Norman Hines, Sr. of Seattle, Wash., Terry Hines of South Bend and Dennis Hines of Osceola, Ind.

Joyce was a WIBC member. She enjoyed bowling, working jigsaw puzzles and word searches. She was a voracious reader and an avid Colts and Pacers fan.

Visitation will be on Monday, June 14, from 1 to 2 p.m. in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road. Funeral services will be on Monday, June 14, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will take place on Tuesday, June 15, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Indianapolis.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
