James Michael Smith

Aug. 7, 1934 – Dec. 27, 2004

James M. Smith passed away December 27 after battling cancer. He was born August 7, 1934 in South Bend to Harold and Cecelia (Hojara) Smith, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie (Robison-Young); a son, Robert Young; daughters, Michelle (Ed) Rivera, Laura (Jeff) Hatfield, and Cherri (Cory) McBain. He also has five grandchildren, Marcus, Chelsea, Kayla, Mason, and Maribelle. James is also survived by a brother, Thomas (Theresa) Smith of Mishawaka, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Smith was a 1952 graduate of Washington High School. He worked at the South Bend Tribune where he retired in 1991 after 39 years of services.

The funeral services and visitation for James were held Thursday, Dec. 30 in the Forest G. Hay Funeral home on Ironwood.
