In Memory
Leon Clifford Grunert
We lost an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and friend April 20, 2012. Leon Grunert was born Aug. 8, 1934, in Piqua, Ohio, and passed away at Nathan Adelson Hospice from complications of Alzheimer's Disease. He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford; mother, Margaret; brothers, Gene and Rodger; sister, Patricia; and son, Steven.
Leon is survived by loving wife, of 55 years, Roxanne; daughters, Rachelle (Patrick) Daly of Rocklin, Calif., Susan (Carl) Roth of Henderson, and Ceclia (John) Pantuso of Henderson; six grandchildren, David (Marissa) Herbers of Hoboken, N.J., Nicholas and Jennifer Pantuso of Henderson, and Alex Ramsey, Hannah Snow and Ryan Daly, all of Rocklin; sister, Madaline Jankowski, of Memphis, Tenn.; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Leon served in the United States Air Force, during the Korean War.
He began his career in air traffic control in 1962, at Chicago Midway, working his way across the U.S. for 34 years, including 12 years, at McCarran Control Tower. Leon retired in 1989, as chief at Deer Valley Airport in Phoenix. Leon's passion was anything to do with airplanes. He loved to fly and logged many hours in his own Cessna and a B-25 with his older brother, Rodger. As a celebration of his life, Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 30, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 130 N. Pecos Road, Henderson.
Burial will follow Mass, at Davis Memorial Park, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Leon was simply the best and will be missed by many. We know he is now in Heaven directing traffic and watching out for all of us.
