Deacon Albert Brown, Jr.

SOUTH BEND - Deacon Albert Brown, Jr. departed this earthly life on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 in his residence after an extended illness. Albert was born on September 14, 1934 in South Bend, IN to Albert Brown Sr. and Jeremiah (Miller) Brown. He resided in the Michiana area all of his lifetime. He was educated at Washington School K - 12th grade.
He played an Alto Saxophone in the marching band. "Al" was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Paris, France. He was a Radio Operator, received a Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged in 1959. He was employed at Material Handling, The Ridge Co., Giant Auto and retired from Auto Zone. His hobbies were bowling, daily visits to McDonalds, and frequent trips to Wal-Mart and Meijers where he would sit on the bench and great the customers. Albert was an active member of Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, and Usher. He was a member of the National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses. He was a member of the MLK Senior Men's Club where he served as Treasurer. Albert was also a member of Chippewa Protestant Bowling League where on Oct. 30th, 2001 he bowled a 300 game and 682 series. He leaves a host of loved ones to cherish his memory.
On May 25th, 1996 he married Brenda E. Scott, thus forming the Scott-Brown clan. From this union survive sons Efrem Clark of Waukegan, IL, Andrae K. Scott, Sr. (Sheniqua) of Detroit, MI and Brett Scott (Shanette) of Norfolk, VA; daughters, Myna (Michael) Shegog of Zion, IL and Michele Cousette of Lafayette, IN. Grandchildren are Sanford Swanson, Jr., Roderick Brown, Andrae K. Scott, Jr., JaMyla Clark, Brittney R. Scott, and Amari J. Scott. Great grandchildren are Kyra G. and Anele H. Swanson. Albert is survived by his only sister, Denoris J. Jackson of South Bend, IN.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Walter Brown Litzelbauer.
The family wishes to thank the Center for Hospice Care for their support and loving care during his illness, especially his nurse "Crissy". Visitation will be Sunday, April 22, 2012 at the Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home, 2702 Lincoln Way West, South Bend, IN from 6 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 23, 2012 in Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 101 N. Adams St., South Bend, IN. Visitation is at 10:00 a.m. and services are at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Visit www.clarkoneal.com to sign his guest book.
