Betty (Benedicta) Hechlinski (Walorski), 93, of South Bend passed away on Saturday September 26, 2026, at the Caring Junction in Mishawaka.

Betty was born on February 28, 1933, in South Bend to the late Benedict and Gertrude (Beitler) Walorski.

On December 29, 1951, she married the love of her life, Norbert Hechlinski, and the two shared 57 years of marriage before his passing in 2008.

Betty worked for the Scottsdale Mall in Customer Service and Management for over 20 years. Betty was a proud member of St. Jude Catholic Church and part of the Rosary Sodality. She also served with the FOP #36 Ladies Auxiliary and as the Democratic Precinct Committee Person for 20 years.

Betty is survived by her children; Linda (Larry) Alwine, Pam LaPierre, and Patrick (Amy) Hechlinski as well as her grandchildren; Jennifer Gregory, Lauren (Ryan) LaPierre-Kaszuba, Daniel (Kayla) Lawecki, Ryan (Julia) Hechlinski, and Joseph Hechlinski and her great-grandchildren; Arleigh, Emmit, Teagan, Holden, Hudson, Cohen, Tristan, and Ezra. Her sister-in-law, Martha Walorski, also survives.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Norbert, her parents, and her siblings; Kathleen Williams and Ray Walorski.

Visitation for Betty will be held from 930am-1030am on Thursday October 1, 2026, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11am at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, 19704 Johnson Rd. South Bend, IN 46614. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Betty’s name may be made to St. Jude’s Catholic Church or to the American Heart Association.
