Barbara J. (Vakarich) Babbitt

Aug. 31, 1932 – June 19, 2006

Barbara J.Babbitt, 73, of South Bend, Indiana, died of natural causes on June 19, 2006. Barbara was born on August 31, 1932, in Lorain, Ohio, to Peter and Rose (Kovach) Vakarich.She was a lifetime resident of South Bend.

On May 27, 1969, she married James C.Babbitt, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, ToniRae (Tim) Hurley of Cape Coral, Florida; two stepsons, Michael (Caroline) Babbitt and Kenneth Cornelis of South Bend; a sister, Rose Marie Kromkowski of South Bend; and a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Romeo of New Mexico. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Phillip (Kim) Brittain of Lehigh Acres, Florida, and Eric Brittain of Houston, Texas; and by a great-grandson, Corey Brittain of Lehigh Acres, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers-in-law, Richard Kromkowski and Donald Romeo; and by a stepdaughter, Jamie Light.

Mrs.Babbitt worked at Bendix in South Bend. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, and she will be missed greatly by all who loved her and her smiling face.

A special thank you to the staff of the Healthwin Specialized Care Facility for the wonderful care and treatment that she received. A memorial service will be held today, June 23, 2006, at 3 p.m.in Corpus Christi Church in South Bend.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the charity of your choice. McGann Hay, Forest G.Hay Funeral Home, was entrusted with the arrangements.
