MISHAWAKA - Louis Edward Thomas, 77, died on Friday, February 25. The greatest man we will ever know was taken from us too soon. Louis was born on June 5, 1933, in Delphos, OH, to Floran and Daisy (Fair) Thomas. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Cindi Thomas; and three brothers, Donald, Joseph and Leon.

On August 12, 1958, he married the former Shirley Ann Fisher. Surviving are his loving wife, Shirley; daughters, Linda Thomas Le Mere and Lori Thomas (Wendall Klota), both of Mishawaka; son, Louis (Jennifer) Thomas II of Osceola; a sister, Shirley Ann Hooker of South Bend; and two grandchildren whom he just adored, Louis Thomas III and Piper Thomas.

Louis was a truck driver for Ryder PIE Trucking in South Bend for 30-plus years before his retirement in 1991. Louis was a wonderful father Poppa, brother, uncle and friend, but most of all he was the kindest man you'd ever know. He was an animal lover and an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Chicago Bears; he would always be sporting one of those hats when you would see him. Dad, taught us how to love, how to trust, how to believe, the only thing you didn't teach us was how to live without you.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 1st, from 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be in the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 2nd, with Pastor Greg Frohna officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka, with military rites by the VFW Post 360/American Legion 160 Burial Team.
