James Edward Robison

James E. Robison, affectionately known as "Jimbo," peacefully transitioned at 6:59 PM on July 24, 2025, at the age of 93. He was surrounded by his loving family in South Bend, Indiana, after a brief illness.

Born March 29, 1932, in South Bend to Ruth Jackson and Edward Robison, both of whom preceded him in death, James was a proud graduate of Washington High School. After graduation, he entered the United States Army, where he served honorably for 20 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant in the Army Reserve.

Upon returning home, James joined the South Bend Police Department. He dedicated another 20 years to public service, retiring in 1978 as a Captain. Retirement didn't slow him down - he went on to work as a substitute teacher at Clay Intermediate School and later served as Supervisor of Maintenance at the University of Notre Dame.

James was a dedicated and active member of his community and faith. He was one of the few to attain the esteemed 33rd Degree Shriner, a testament to his leadership and commitment.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Marie E. Robison, his sister Glennis Barnes, and his son Willie T. Gillespie.

James leaves to cherish his memory: His children: Gwendolyn (Dennis) Copeland Sr. of South Bend, IN; Charmaine Powell of Indianapolis, IN; and James R. Robison of South Bend, IN. Ten grandchildren, Twenty great-grandchildren, and One great-great-grandchild

James E. Robison will be deeply missed. His unwavering dedication to family, service, and community leaves behind a legacy that will endure for generations.
