Robert Paul DeCook - Class Of 1951 VIEW PROFILE

Robert Paul DeCook

Robert P. DeCook, 46, of 1621 Magnolia, died shortly after 3 p.m. Monday, April 9, 1979, following a heart attack which occurred while he was driving on the U.S. 31 Bypass, north of Ind. 2. According to Deputy Coroner Dr. Louis Grwinski, the heart attack caused DeCook to lose control of his car which veered to the right side, went 750 feet across a field and came to rest against an embankment. The Portage Twp. Fire Department was called when the car exhaust ignited grass in the field.

DeCook was born on Nov. 7, 1932, in South Bend and lived here all his life. He was employed by the Capital Tooling, Inc., as a machine designer.

On Aug. 30, 1968, in South Bend he married Mary Ann Hartwick who survives. Also surviving are six daughters, Suzanne Furry of Lima, Ohio, and June, Bonnie, Sharon, Shirley and Sandra, all at home; two sons, Paul of South Bend and Robert Kevin at home; one grandchild; his mother, Eleanor DeCook of South and a brother, Valaire of South Bend.

Friends may call until 9 p.m. today, April 11, in Kaniewski & Sons Funeral Home. DeCook was a member of the American Legion, Post 50; the V.F.W. Post Golden Hills 8748, and a Navy veteran of the Korean conflict
