Tezich, 71, former chief deputy, dies SOUTH BEND - Stephen Tezich, 71, of East Chicago, Ind., formerly of South Bend, died Saturday in St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago. Mr. Tezich was former chief deputy for St. Joseph County, a former employee of North Township Trustee Office in East Chicago, and former Indiana State Hearing Judge in Hammond.
He was the former owner and operator of San Bar in East Chicago for 18 years. He was born Oct. 13, 1919, in South Bend, and he lived in the area for 36 years. He married the former Helen Voynovich, who survives along with a sister, Helen Trbovic of Michigan City; and a brother, George of South Bend.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, a past commander and member of VFW 1167, Notre Dame 100 Club, former member of Elks 981, and a member of St. George Serbian Church in East Chicago where he once served on the board. He was 1938 valedictorian of Washington High School.
Services will be at 10 a.m. CST Monday in St. George Serbian Church in East Chicago. Graveside services will be Monday in Ilighland Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. EST. Friends may call today from 2 to 9 p.m. CST in Oleska-Pastrick Funeral Home, 3934 Elm St., East Chicago, where a pomen service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
