Erwin A. Holewinski

Aug.5, 1919 – May 5, 2010 BREMEN — Erwin A. Holewinski Sr., 90, Bremen, died on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, in his home.He was born August 5, 1919, to Casimir and Martha (Urbanski) Holewinski. In February 1944 he married Mary Ann Nicholas, who preceded him in death on October 20, 2008.

Mr.Holewinski had been retired since the mid-70s. He served with honor in WW II having been a gunner in the tank corps fighting in The Pacific Theater, earning the Purple Heart for injuries he received at The Battle of Okinawa.

He is survived by two sons, Erwin, Jr. “Bud” (Brenda) of Elkhart and Dennis of Lakeville. He had four grandchildren, Kirk (Donna) Holewinski of Bristol, Amberley Fenner of Middlebury, Tabbitha “Tabby” Sauter of Bremen, and one deceased, Kristian Ann Holewinski. He also has one great-granddaughter, Mariah Holewinski of Goshen; one surviving sister, Caroline Bognar of South Bend; three nieces, Joyce (Clarence) Kaminski, Carol Ann (Ed) Paltier and Michelle Molina.

Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, in the Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen, and will be officiated by Father Polycarp Fernando.Burial will follow at the Bremen Cemetery, with graveside military honors. Friends may call from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Monday, May 10, 2010, in the funeral home, and again one hour prior to the service on Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bremen VFW. A remembrance celebration of their lives will be had at a later date.
