Richard J. DeWitt

Richard J. DeWitt, 64, of 3627 Ardmore Trail, died at 11:32 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph's Medical Center after a two-week illness.

He retired in December. 1981 from the Bendix Corp., where he was employed as a grinder. Born on Oct. 14, 1918, in South Bend, he was a lifetime area resident. On Sept. 22, 1951, in South Bend, he married the former Catherine Ryan. She survives with a daughter, Mrs. Judith Ann Patterson of Dallas, and three granddaughters.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with Rev. Bernard Piegarski, CSC, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Kaniewski & Sons Funeral Home, where a parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

He was a member and past grand knight of Santa Maria Council 553, Knights of Columbus, and a member of the 3rd and 4th degrees of the Father J. Nieuland Knights of Columbus, who will lead a rosary at 4 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. He also was a member of United Auto Workers Local 9 and a life member of National Rifle Association.

Memorial contributions may be made to the cardiac care unit at St. Joseph's Medical Center
