Robert E. Brady

Robert Edward Brady, 77, residing in Granger, Ind., passed away at 10:55 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend, Ind. Mr. Brady was born on March 3, 1925, in South Bend, to the late William and Lillian (Rosploch) Reed. His stepfather, John Brady, also preceded him in death. Mr. Brady has been a lifelong area resident.

On Dec. 27, 1952, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church, South Bend, Robert married the former Rosemary Dubuque, who survives. Along with his wife, Rosemary of 50 years, he is also survived by four sons, Jeffrey (Marcia) Brady of Indianapolis, Ind., Michael (Glenda) Brady of Fishers, Ind., Thomas (Kimberly) Brady of Mishawaka, Ind., and Timothy (Lori) Brady of Indianapolis; seven grandsons, Jeffrey, Matthew, Jordan, Aaron, Drew, T.J. and Ian; one granddaughter, Tracy; and by a great-grandson, Cameron.

Bob was a 1943 graduate of Washington High School. He then served his country as a technical sergeant in the Army Engineers. He was a machinist and in the special services stationed in Hawaii. After his military service, Bob attended Indiana State University where he played basketball for Coach John Wooden for two years.

Bob's first teaching job was at Washington High School where he assisted in coaching football, basketball and track. In 1958, Bob was hired as the first basketball coach at Penn High School. He was also the first tennis coach. Bob was a former chairman of the Health and Physical Education Department at Penn High School.

Over the years he has held many offices including president of the Queen of Peace School Board, president of the American Cancer Society of South Bend, president of the St. Joseph County Smoking Agency, Education Board for the March of Dimes, and taught CPR for the American Red Cross. Bob was a devoted husband, devoted father, devoted teacher and coach. He will be missed by all.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 1109 Lincoln Way West, Osceola, Ind. Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 13, in the Palmer Funeral Home, Osceola, and one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Contributions in memory of Robert Edward Brady may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
