Sandra J. (Flanagan) Aberegg

January 26, 1946 ~ January 21, 2024 (age 77)

Sandra J. Aberegg, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on January 26, 1946, in South Bend, Sandra's life was a tapestry of love, and creativity, woven through the years she spent in her beloved hometown where she also drew her last breath.

Sandra's early years were spent under the loving guidance of her grandparents, who encouraged her to learn ballet and ice skating – and her parents the late Glenn E. Flanagan and Norma Sally Fish. Her journey of love and companionship began when she met Walter N. Aberegg and they were married Walter N. Aberegg on February 3, 1966, in South Bend. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership until Walter's passing on November 11, 2023.

The legacy of Sandra's love and spirit is carried on by her children: Norma Everhart, Wanda (Shawn) Henderson, Walter (Cynthia) Aberegg III, William Aberegg, Wannetta (Robert) Probst, Wendalyn Aberegg, Whittney (Brandon) Bumbalough, Wayne (Mary Courtney) Aberegg, Wade (Vanessa Bope) Aberegg, and Wylinda (Alex) Wheat. She was a proud grandmother to 21 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, who will miss her deeply. Sandra was preceded in death by her son, Joseph William Aberegg, whose memory remained close to her heart.

Sandra's academic achievements were marked by her graduation from Washington High School, followed by earning her associate degree in nursing. Her early professional life was dedicated to caring for others as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Memorial Hospital. Beyond her career, Sandra embraced the role of a homemaker and volunteering at her children’s schools. 

Her interests reflected her creative side and her love for bringing joy to others. Sandra was always baking or cooking and known especially for her delectable bourbon balls. Her hands were rarely still, as she found joy in crafting, sewing, and any creative endeavor that allowed her to express her creativity.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Southlawn Cemetery, 61300 U.S. 31 South, South Bend, IN.
