Fred D. Levandowski

Fred D. Levandowski, 71, of South Bend, Ind., passed away at 11:50 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, in St. Joseph Medical Center Mr. Levandowski was born on Sept. 9, 1926, in South Bend, and was a lifelong resident. He retired on Oct. 1, 1988, after 35 years as an engineer at St. Mary's Convent, and had previously been employed with the former Studebaker Corporation. In June 1948, in South Bend, he married Dolores Mae Jozwiak, who preceded him in death on April 27, 1984. Mr. Levandowski was also preceded in death by his parents, John and Lottie (Fentkowski) Levandowski; a sister, Virginia (Levandowski) Dzikowski; and by a brother, Harry Lewandowski.

He is survived by an aunt, Rose Newton; three nieces; four nephews; and by one great-niece.

Mr. Levandowski was a member of St. Mary's Polish National Church, was a World War II Navy veteran, a member of V.F.W. Post 9820, American Legion Pulaski Post 357, and was a graduate of Washington High School. He was an ardent fisherman of bluegills and always provided fish for all his family and friends. Fred was very grateful to the Sisters of St. Mary's Convent for all of their support over the years. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in St. Mary's Polish National Church.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, where members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9820 will conduct military services. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, and from 2 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary's Polish National Church Organ Fund.
