Robert Gene Reed, who was known to everyone as Bobby, departed this life on Sunday, July 23, 2023, after a brief illness at the West Bend Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, South Bend, Indiana, at the age of 78.  Bobby was born on June 1, 1945, to the late John and Laura (Solomon) Reed and was a lifelong resident of South Bend.  He was educated in the public school system.

Bobby was the fourth of ten children and was devoted to his family.  They affectionately referred to him as “OG”.  He was the proud big brother and uncle that would let everyone know,

“that’s my family”.

Bobby is survived by one brother, Terry Reed, South Bend, Indiana; five sisters: Dorothy E. Reeves, Jonesboro, Georgia, Regina Reed-Phillips (Jeffery), Grand Prairie, Texas, Parthenia Reed, Joanne Donaldson (Archie), and Deborah Reed-Johnson, all of South Bend, Indiana; and two devoted sisters-in-law, Bobbie, and Patricia Reed.  Bobby will be missed by his siblings and many nieces and nephews.  Bobby was preceded in death by both parents, John Reed Sr. in 1976, and Laura Lee Reed in 1995; also, three brothers, Herbert Lee Reed in 1977, James Reed in 1997, and John Henry Reed Jr. in 2016; and sisters-in-law, Maggie, and Anne Reed.

Bobby was always the type of person that had to do things his way and even during his illness, he kept up the fight and can say “I did it my way”.

Funeral services for Bobby will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, August 4, 2023 at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 1620 S. St. Joseph Street, South Bend. Family and friends may visit one hour prior.  Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, 2257 Portage Avenue, South Bend, IN 46616. Palmer Funeral Home-West Chapel, 2702 Lincolnway West, South Bend will be assisting the family with the arrangements
