Lorraine "Lori" (Wachowiak) Zanetti
Lorraine "Lori" Zanetti, 89, of Elkhart, loving, wife, mother and grandmother, died peacefully in her sleep with no pain on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at her residence in Elkhart. She was born May 29, 1933, in South Bend, Indiana, to Stanley and Jane (Kopczynski) Wachowiak.
On Oct. 9, 1954, in South Bend, Indiana, she married Romie N. Zanetti. He survives along with three children, Stanley M. Zanetti of Elkhart, Victor B. (Jill) Zanetti of Plano, Texas, Linda J. (Brent) Anderson of Coppell, Texas; son-in-law Jeffrey Claxton of Indianapolis; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; a brother, Ray (Georgian) Wachowiak of South Bend; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Gloria Claxton, and two siblings, Ben Wachowiak and Betty Horvath.
Lori graduated in 1951 from Washington High School in South Bend. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, the Elks Lodge and the Moose Lodge. She enjoyed playing golf and playing bridge with her friends.
Lori worked as a secretary at Bendix Corp. and Studebaker, both in South Bend, and was the head cashier at the Elkhart Community School System for over 25 years.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 24, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Rice Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family for one hour prior to the mass at the church.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church or Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research (www.info-komen.org/goto/lorraine_wachowiak) in loving memory of her daughter Gloria (Zanetti) Claxton who died of breast cancer at the age of 46.
Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home is entrusted with her care.
