Harry S. "Smiley" Nies (nee Niespodziany)

Harry S. (Smiley) Nies, 50, of Rt. 2, New Carlisle, died at noon Wednesday in Memorial Hospital after a three-week illness. He was an accountant. He was born March 13, 1932, in South Bend and was a lifetime area resident.

On Sept. 1, 1956, in South Bend, he married Sylvia Hartwick, who survives along with a daughter, Miss Stephanie Nies, at home; and two sisters, Mrs. Irene Yacko of Indianapolis and Mrs. Joan Wawrzyniak of South Bend.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Stanislaus Kostka, Terre Coupe, with Rev. Derrick Sneyd, pastor, officiating. Entombment will be in the Resurrection Gardens Mausoleum at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call until 9 p.m. today at the St. Joseph Funeral Home, where a parish rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the Navy. He was a member of Post 297 American Legion of New Carlisle, a graduate of Indiana University, and a member of the Indiana University Alumni Association
