SOUTH BEND — Bernard D.Bejma, 78, passed away at 6:58 p.m. on Thursday, September 2, 2010, in Hospice House. Bernard was born on March 15, 1932, in South Bend, to the late Stanley and Irene (Buczynski) Bejma. Also preceding him in death were his brother, Eugene, and sisters, Mary Jane Stopczynski and Barbara Bejma.
Bernard is survived by his daughters, Becky (Bill) Snyder of North Liberty and Bonnie Bejma of South Bend; son, Tony (Hei Mao) Bejma of Arrowsic, Maine; grandchildren, Bill Snyder Jr., Jessica Snyder, Sara Coker, Sam Hosinski, Jake Hosinski, Louie Hosinski and Hattie Hosinski;great-grandchildren, Delshante, Kiana, Lucas and Elijah; sister, Patricia (Jim) Howard of Mishawaka; and brother, Robert Bejma of Joleton, Tennessee.
Bernard loved his children and grandchildren, cherishing the shopping trips and going out to eat with them.He loved to fish, golf, garden, cook, and was a gifted artist.At Navarre Middle School and the original Wilson School he was a 7th grade science teacher and 8th grade math teacher. He coached football and several other sports. He was a talented athlete, playing offensive and defensive tackle in college.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m.on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, in St.Joseph Catholic Church, South Bend.Family and friends may gather one hour prior in the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
