Dorothy Marie Vaughn

LOS ANGELES, CA - On Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at 10:43pm, God dispatched his angels to carry Mother Dorothy Marie Vaughn; beloved mother, church mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend to her place of rest. Dorothy was born on December 4, 1949 in South Bend, Indiana to Deacon Odessa and Missionary Mable Alford.

Dorothy attended Washington High School in South Bend, Indiana.

She was a member of the Saints Memorial Church of God in Christ along with her family. Dorothy loved to sing and was an active member of the choir. She later joined Pentecostal Church of God in Christ under the leadership of her brother, Bishop Donald L. Alford. Dorothy moved to Los Angeles, California in 1961 where she completed her education at Los Angeles Southwest College. She became an active member of the Testimonial Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop J. Bernard Hackworth.

Dorothy married the late Jesse Edwards, and to this union was born two children, Vanessa Marie and Brian-Keith Lamar Edwards. Several years later, she married Royce Vaughn who preceded her in death.

Also, she was employed at Denson Tax and Accounting where she worked as a Tax Accounting Clerk for many years. Dorothy united with the Tower of Faith Evangelistic Church under the leadership of Administrative Assistant, Dr. Reuben Anderson, Sr. Dorothy was a faithful and dedicated member. She would attend all services regularly. In bible study is where she received a special anointing to teach God's word. Recommended by her Pastor and her church mother, Dorothy was licensed as an Evangelist Missionary. She was President of the Senior Choir, and worked as a clerk in the church office. Evangelist Vaughn would witness on the streets, sing and testify of God's goodness in Convalescent homes, and conducted many prayer services in homes and by telephone with Pastor Dorothy Sims of the Ounce of Hope Prayer Ministry. Evangelist Vaughn would assist church ministries by organizing special services to uplift the body of Christ spiritually and financially. The Lord led Evangelist Vaughn to join her daughter and son-in-law, Bishop York Milton at New Light Missionary Baptist Church. She worked wholeheartedly in the ministry and was President of the women's department.

She was a loving grandmother who taught her grandchildren how to love Jesus and encouraged them to always do their best for the Lord. Evangelist Vaughn would take her daughter and grandchildren to assist her with the convalescent ministry. In 2012, Evangelist Vaughn joined the Greater Shiloh Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor and First Lady Spencer L. Davis, Sr. She was appointed Church Mother by Pastor Davis. She served faithfully until the Lord called her from labor to reward. Mother Vaughn was an anointed woman of God, and was a strong supporter of her family, church family, and her friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers: Calvin Otis, Robert, Odessa, Jr. Alford.

Family members who survive to forever cherish her memory are: her children Vanessa Milton and Brian Edwards; five grandchildren: Timothy, Luke, Daniel, Nicholas and Marissa Milton; her great-grandson: Zaymar J. Milton; her god-daughter: Sharmaine Ross; two brothers: Clyde Alford, and Bishop Donald L. Alford (Mary I.); three sisters: Delores Sledge-Campbell (William), Janice Marable, and Joan Baber; a special niece Deann Baber, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

The Celebration of Life will take place at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Tower of Faith Evangelistic Church, 4323 East Rosecrans Avenue, Compton, CA, where Bishop Donald L. Alford will officiate services.
