RONALD D. TESSELY

Ronald D. Tessely Sr. Nov. 10, 1940 - Sept. 17, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Ronald D. Tessely Sr., 74, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 4:44 a.m. Thursday, September 17, 2015, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Ronald was born on November 10, 1940, in South Bend, to Camiel and Frances (Jaronik) Tessely, and was a lifelong resident.

He attended Washington High School and retired after 30 years of service from G.L. Perry, where he was employed as the Store Manager at the Goshen location.

On June 3, 1961, in South Bend, he married Janet A. Royce, who survives. Also surviving are his three children, Ronald D. Tessely Jr. of North Miami, Florida, Ronnae (Donna) Tessely and Shelly (Rodney) O'Dell, both of South Bend, Indiana; six grandchildren, Sydney, Ryan, Leah and Matthew, all of South Bend, Indiana, Erika and Emma of North Miami, Florida; and his childhood friends, Walt DeBaetes, Joseph, Mauricio, and Max Vega.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Camiel and Frances Tessely; his sister, Gloria Hageniers; and his brother, Richard Tessely.

He and Janet spent many years traveling the country in their R.V. Together they enjoyed visiting numerous historical sites. He especially enjoyed Civil War Memorials. His greatest joy was being "Poppa" to his grandchildren. He loved to tell stories and was a "true jokester" at heart. He was an avid music lover and enjoyed attending concerts with family and friends.

There will be no service or visitation. Ronald's wishes were to be cremated and his family honors those wishes. Memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Joseph County Humane Society or South Bend Animal Care and Control. Kaniewski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

"Learning to Fly" by Pink Floyd was the last song he listened to before he fell asleep and left this earth. The lyrics describe his journey to perfection. "Above the planet on a wing and a prayer, My grubby halo, a vapour trail in the empty air, Across the clouds I see my shadow fly Out of the corner of my watering eye A dream unthreatened by the morning light Could blow this soul right through the roof of the night" He learned to fly. We all love and miss you!
