ARTHUR A. TAELMAN

SOUTH BEND - Arthur A. Taelman, 88, of Naples, FL and formerly South Bend, IN, passed away on April 22, 2012 at 12:30 A.M. at Avow Hospice in Naples. He was born to Alfons and Elisa (Bechlandt) Taelman on November 26, 1923 in South Bend, IN.

He graduated from Washington High School in 1941 and served honorably in the U.S. Army.

In 1964, he became the owner of Circle Lumber Company, which he operated until his retirement in 1992. He was ethical in all his endeavors, a gentleman of the old school. In 1949, Arthur was married to Maxine Shock until her death in 1990. In 1992 he married Elaine Miller, who survives. After their marriage they retired to Naples, FL and enjoyed a loving relationship and were seldom apart from one another. Arthur followed all sports, in particular, anything Notre Dame; he loved to travel, dance, play scrabble and do crossword puzzles.

He is survived by his children, Gary (Louann) Taelman of Williamsburg, MI, Craig (Sally) Taelman of South Bend, IN and Melissa (Adrian) Shell of Niles, MI; ten grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Also surviving are two stepdaughters, Doreen Bergland of Cleveland, TX and Janine Barany of West Palm Beach, FL. Preceding him in death were his brother, Julius and his sisters, Mary, Martha, and Dorothy; and infant grandson, Nicholas Shell.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Bonita Springs, FL. A chapel service will be held on May 11, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, IN. Interment will immediately follow. The family would like to thank Avow Hospice for the excellent care given to Arthur in his final days. Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities of Collier County, 2210 Santa Barbara Blvd., Naples, FL 34116 or to Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105. Arrangements are being handled by Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home.
