WILLIE M. "MACK" SMITH

SOUTH BEND - Mr. Willie M. Smith, age 70, beloved father, grandfather, brother & friend, who resided on Friars Court, South Bend, IN, departed this life Monday, May 27, 2013. Willie, affectionately called "Mack," was born to the union of Willie M. Smith Sr. & Pearl (Holloway) Smith on October 23, 1942, in Eudora, Arkansas. Both of his parents preceded him in death.

Coming from Eudora in 1948, Mack moved with his parents to South Bend, Indiana, which remained his primary home until his expiration. In December 1965, Mack married his high school sweetheart, Cynthia D. Johnson. To this union a son, Rodney Michael Smith, was born. Later, with remarriage to Helen Kennedy in the late '70s, Mack inherited a stepdaughter, Fran Denise-Ann Kennedy.

Mack attended South Bend Washington High School. To honor his country, he chose to enlist in the United States Army where he served 2 years with pride and courage. After being discharged with honors, Mack pursued and accepted employment with Bendix Corporation/Honeywell, laboring more than 20 years. While employed with Bendix, he served in many capacities, including that of Union Steward. Mack was also able to further his education through Bendix, before permanently retiring from the company.

Survivors left to cherish Mack's memory include one son, Rodney M. Smith of Scottsdale, AZ; one stepdaughter, Fran D. Kennedy of South Bend, IN; two granddaughters, Miquaela "Gran" Smith and Ranijiah "Mouse" Smith, both of South Bend, IN; one step-granddaughter, Ashley Shaw; two brothers, Decator (Beatrice) Smith and John Robert Smith, both of South Bend, IN; a special friend, Cindy Cruz; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Mack was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Mack Sr. and Pearl Smith; his sister, Helen Godwin; and ex-wife, Helen Smith.

Services for Mr. Willie Mack Smith Jr. will be held Friday, May 31, 2013, from 5 pm - 7 pm at Alford's Mortuary, 1222 W.
