SOUTH BEND - On the morning of Monday, October 8, 2007, our dear loved one, Mrs. Cidrena Smith, was suddenly called into eternal rest at Memorial Hospital at the age of 37. On February 14, 1970, in South Bend, Cidrena was born to the union of Vernell and Vanessa Sutton Spates.

As a lifetime area resident, Cidrena attended the South Bend community schools, graduating from Washington High School and later Michiana Community College where she majored in accounting. She had been employed for the past 10 years as a mental health technician for Madison Center.

Cidrena had a great love for life and being with children. She also loved to listen to gospel music. In July 1998, Cidrena married Anthony Smith in Las Vegas, NV. Her memory will be cherished by a loving family which includes her husband, Anthony Smith; daughters, Jordan Smith, Dequchia Smith and Brianna Jackson; sons, DeQaun Smith and Anthony T.Q. Smith Jr., all of South Bend; a stepsister, Alise Spates of South Bend; and a brother, Keith Sutton of Miami, FL; her mother and stepfather, Vanessa (Charles) Sutton-Allen of South Bend, and father, Vernell (Samantha) Spates of Gary, IN; maternal grandmother, Zenobia Sutton of South Bend; an aunt, Sarah Burns of East St. Louis, IL; uncles, Wade Sutton and Kelvin Sutton, both of South Bend, and Tommie Spates of Gary, IN; sisters-in-law, Lula Jackson of East St. Louis, IL, Sheila Smith, Christie Smith, Nicole Smith, Roseland Smith, Alice Smith, Laura Smith, Lenora Smith, Rita Smith and Tammy Smith, all of South Bend; brothers-in-law, Tommie Smith, Michael Smith, Curtis Smith, Marvin Smith and Christopher Smith, all of South Bend; the Coleman family; along with a host of cousins and friends including Frank and Sabrina Mancuso, Sherry Selmon, George and April Jones, Shawn and Stacey Smith, Cory Headley, Shawn and Cynthia Jacks, all of South Bend, and Mary Starks of Michigan.

Family members who preceded her in death include her grandmother, Louise Spates, father and mother-in-law, Tommy and Queenie Smith.

Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, in Alford's Mortuary to which arrangements have been entrusted. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery.
