AVARD L. SIMS

SOUTH BEND - Avard LeCharles Sims, 52, a resident of Minneapolis, Minnesota, died after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. Avard passed away peacefully at North Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis on Tuesday, August 11, 2009. Avard was one of nine children born to Ruby Sims and the late David Sims Jr.

Avard was born and raised in South Bend, Indiana, and attended Washington High School.

Avard will forever be remembered by his loving mother, Ruby Sims; devoted sisters, Charlotte Sims, Carla Henderson, Cheryl Gilliam (Christopher), Fredonya Curry and Belinda Sims; and loyal brothers, David Sims III, Harold E. Sims and Paul Sims Sr. (Stephanie). Avard is further survived by longtime companion, Priscilla Harris, daughter, Ada C. Sims, two grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Avard had many loves, among them fishing, being with his family, and reveling in the company of good friends. He touched the lives of many people with his kind spirit and quiet and steadfast nurturing. He maintained authentic concern for those he loved all the way to the end.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Thursday, Aug. 20th, at noon in Unity West Church, 4750 N. Mayfair Road (Hwy 100 and Hampton), Milwaukee, WI 53226.
