John R. Wegh
John R. Wegh, 88, passed away at 9:30am Monday, May 15, 2023 in his residence, surrounded by his family.
John was born on July 18, 1934 in South Bend to John and Barbara (Herczeg) Wegh. He graduated from Washington High School and Purdue University. John retired from Bendix in 1988 after 33 years, where he worked as a brake engineer. He also was the sexton for Mount Calvary Cemetery for many years. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, the former DFV German Club and the Bendix Management Club. John enjoyed wood working, fishing and being at his lake home on Magician Lake, and playing with his grandchildren.
On September 3, 1956 he married the former Josephine Andert who survives along with two daughters Pat (Henry) Holkenbrink and Maria (Jeff) Bray, a son Steve (Mary) Wegh, 8 grandchildren Emily Wegh, Christine Bray, Matt Wegh, Claire (Jesse) Benedict, Marie (Peyton) Leeson, Elizabeth Bray, Sarah Wegh, and Annie Wegh, a great-grandchild that is on the way, and a sister Mary Casper. John was preceded in death by a sister Irene Derda and a brother Emery Wegh.
Visitation for John will be held on Friday May 19, 2023 from 4-8pm in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue, where a rosary will be recited at 4:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am Saturday in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.
