SOUTH BEND - Edmund A. Rzepnicki, 87, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 12:09 a.m. Monday, October 20, 2008, in his home. Ed was born on December 12, 1920, in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident. He retired in 1985 after 22 years with Buchanan Steel Products in Niles, MI. He had also been employed with the former Studebaker Corporation for 23 years.

On April 27, 1943, in the former St. Stephen's Church, South Bend, IN, he married Erma Albey, who preceded him in death on April 28, 2005. Also preceding him in death were his parents, Albert and Stephaie (Grochowski) Rzepnicki; his brother, John, and two infant brothers.

Survivors include his daughter, Tina L. Rzepnicki, and her husband, Barry Rapoport of Miller Beach, IN; two grandchildren, Erin Rapoport of Vancouver, Canada, and Andrew Rapoport of Chicago, IL; two granddogs, Toulei and Rambeau; his sister, Adeline (Fred) Kazmierski of South Bend, IN; and four brothers, Casimir Rzepnicki of South Bend, IN, Bernard Rzepnicki of New Paltz, New York, Norbert (Jo) Rzepnicki of Mishawaka, IN, Stephen Rzepnicki of Mishawaka, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ed was a 1939 graduate of Washington High School where he was the first captain of the golf team, a captain of the football team and a member of the Washington High School baseball and basketball teams. Ed had also played baseball for the American Legion Post #327 and Studebaker's in 1939 and 1940. He played college football at the University of Mississippi. Ed was an active athlete for most of his life and an avid golfer. He was a W.W. II Army veteran stationed with the Military Police at the U.S. Embassy in London, England. He was also a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and the St. Joseph Young Men's Society. A

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 23, 2008, in Holy Cross Catholic Church. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N.
