ALEXANDER "AL" RETEK

SOUTH BEND - Alexander "Al" Retek, 86, of South Bend, passed away at 6:05 p.m. Saturday, January 15th, in the Sanctuary at Saint Joseph after a short illness. Mr. Retek was born on March 3, 1924, in South Bend, IN, and had resided in the area his lifetime. On January 25, 1947, he married the former Ella M. Pinter, who survives along with a son, David A. (Diane) Retek of Granger, IN. A sister also survives, Helen Lehman of South Bend, along with several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Retek was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II and very proud to have served his country. He was a member of American Legion Post 357 and the VFW. He was also a member of PNA Lodge 83, Washington Huddle Club, and was a member of the Washington High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Mr. Retek was a member of numerous organizations not mentioned. Al loved to travel, gardening, bowling, and was an avid fan of Notre Dame football and the Chicago Bears. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and all who had the opportunity to know Al during his life journey. He was a gentle man who cared for people and enjoyed meeting new friends.

There will be no visitation hours or services; his wishes were to be remembered by family and friends during life. His loving family honored his wishes. Entombment will take place today, January 18th, at Highland Cemetery Mausoleum. The HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/Indiana 23, South Bend, handled arrangements and extends its deepest sympathy to the Retek family. Memorial contributions may be made to Pet Refuge, Inc.
