Saintclair Poindexter - Class Of 1963 VIEW PROFILE

 

SAINTCLAIR POINDEXTER

July 3, 1945 - March 25, 2013
SOUTH BEND - Mr. Saintclair Poindexter departed this life on Monday, March 25, 2013, at 8:38 a.m. in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, Indiana. He was born in Colona, Arkansas, July 3, 1945, to Mary Poindexter and Sherman Bright. He moved to South Bend, Indiana, as a young child with his mother and grandfather. He gave his life to God at an early age at the Mount Olive M.B. Church.

He was educated in the South Bend School Corporation and attended Washington High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army.

On August 13, 1964, he married Earlie Mae Tidwell; to this union four children were born, Karen of Indianapolis, IN, Rosemary and Monique, both of South Bend, and SinClair David of Tacoma, Washington. He was later blessed with beautiful twin girls, Clairesetta and Charlesetta Poindexter, and a son, Gabriel, all of South Bend, IN, and twenty-two grandchildren.

Saintclair was a strong person, who stood up for what he thought was right. He was known throughout the Michiana area as "The Man on the Street." He loved music, and was a great saxophone player. He was self-employed and was one of Michiana's greatest photographers; traveled all over taping weddings, concerts, reunions, church affairs, etc. St. Clair loved life. He loved the Lord. He served and fellowshipped with Christ Temple under the leadership of Pastor Rae Thomas, and Greater St. Matthew under Rev. Charles King Sr.

Others to cherish his memories are four sisters, Charolette Burnley of Florida, Elaine and Theresa Burnley of Georgia, and Cherrie-Ann Burnley of South Bend; two brothers, Melvin Fisher of San Antonio, Texas, and Dwayne Burnley of Macon, Georgia; three aunts, Roselea Brooks, Lena Poindexter and Eartha Gavin, all of South Bend; a special friend, Sister Rose Ayers, and children; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Poindexter-Fisher, and his grandfather, Deacon Clarence Poindexter; also by a very special friend, Mrs. Audery Anderson.

Services for Mr. Saintclair Poindexter will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013, in the Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home Inc., 2707 Lincoln Way West, South Bend, Indiana. Visitation will begin at 12 noon with a 1 p.m. service.
