JAMES T. PHILLIPS
James Thomas Phillips Sept. 3, 1961 - July 28, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Mr. James Thomas Phillips departed this life at the age of 52 on July 28, 2014 at 9:20 a.m. in Signature Place Nursing Home, South Bend, Indiana. James was born on September 3, 1961 to Wiley and Joanne (Fikes) Phillips.
He attended and graduated from Washington High School in 1979 and worked at the Social Security Administration and jobs around the area.
James was an avid reader and loved to barbecue for his family and friends. He was affectionately known to everyone as "Jim Romey" because he loved to travel. Being the life of the party, he never met a stranger. His favorite pasttime was spending time with family and friends. At an early age, James confessed his faith in the Lord at New Salem Missionary Baptist Church.
Loved ones who survive to mourn his loss include his loving mother, Joanne (Fikes) Phillips; his son, Mark Anthony of Memphis, Tennessee; his grandchildren: Rummel and Remyre' Johnson; siblings: Michael Leroy Johnson, Bettina Harris, Jackie (Anthony) Williams of Memphis, Tennessee, Sandra Johnson, Brian Phillips, Nancy (Lloyd) Anderson of Indianapolis, Indiana, Kimberly (Kenny) Johnson, Patricia (Michael) Henderson, Jerome Phillips, Michael (Phyllis) Phillips, Cheryl Phillips, Kenneth Thompson, William Thompson, and Wiley Phillips III; a loving fianc‚, Candace Mitchell, who was there for him; along with other numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
James was preceded in death by his father, Wiley Phillips Jr.; his son, Rummel Johnson; his siblings: Regina Clark, Larry Phillips, Terrance Phillips and Thomasina Jones; and his grandparents: Ledia and Claude Fikes, Wiley Sr. and Alice Phillips.
Services for James Phillips will be held on Monday, August 4, 2014 at Pentecostal Cathedral C.O.G.I.C., 1025 W. Western Avenue, South Bend. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and service at 12:00 p.m. Guestbook condolences at www.alfordsmortuaryinc.com. Arrangements entrusted to Alford's Mortuary.
