SOUTH BEND - Mr. Frederick Louis Patton Jr., 53, loving father, son, brother and grandfather, who resided on South Meade Street, South Bend, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 11, 2009, at 7:40 am. in Memorial Hospital. Fred was affectionately known as "Sweet and Fat Daddy." He was born to Thelma Louise (Bennett) and Frederick Patton Sr. on March 28, 1956, in South Bend, Indiana.

Fred attended Washington High School and was employed by Steel Warehouse.

For 34 years he was married to Linda D. Patton. Fred leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Barbara L. Henderson; three sons, Frederick L. (Chandra) Patton, Anthony (Connie) Patton and Fred Bell; 13 grandchildren and four great- grandchildren; his mother, Thelma Patton, all of South Bend; his father and stepmother, Frederick (Charlotte) Patton Sr.; sisters, Bridget Patton and Robin E. (Patton) Walker, all of Denver, CO, and Thellisa Patton of South Bend; brothers, Dennis (Glenda) Patton and Perry (Angela) Patton of South Bend, Curtis D. Patton, Frederick L. Patton II and Markus O. Patton of Denver, CO; a special aunt, Lenora Fleming; cousins, Terry, LaRay, Johnny Fleming, Roy Fleming, Diana Gorden, Vickie Fleming and Kathy Richard, all of South Bend; special friends, Troy Thomas, Noah Rucker and Mary Smith of South Bend.

Preceding him in death were his maternal grandparents, Claude and Mildred Smith Bennett; and paternal grandmother, Eloise Turley-William.

Fred had a heart of gold and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone. Because he was loved so much, he will be truly missed by all who knew him. Fred was an adamant Chicago Bears fan. His pastime was watching Westerns, listening to Blues, and writing letters to "Voice of the People." "Always appreciate what you have in life, because in just a second, everything could disappear". In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions be made payable to Alford's Mortuary.

Funeral services for Mr. Patton will be held at noon on Saturday in New Generation Christian Ministry, 431 S. Summit Street. Interment will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the services in the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford's Mortuary.
