Cleopher Nicks

Jan. 1, 1925 - March 28, 2008
SOUTH BEND - On the morning of March 28th, the angel of death came into Memorial Hospital and with chilly fingers sealed the lips of Cleopher Nicks. While here on this earth, Mr. Nicks resided at 814 N. Elmer St., and was lovingly known as a brother, father, grandfather, uncle and a friend. His soul has winged its flight from this world of sin, sorrow and pain to a home of eternal rest. "Spooks," as he was affectionately known, was born to the union of Thomas Frenzie and Rosie Lee Nicks in Steele, MO, on January 1, 1925.

He received his elementary schooling through Oliver School and was a graduate of Washington High School.

Spooks made a personal commitment to Christ and accepted Him as his personal Savior and was baptized by Pastor Eddie Miller. During his early years he married Maria Johnson and to this union two sons were born, who have all preceded him in death. Spooks was a diligent worker and spent his working years at the Studebaker Corporation, Clark Equipment Company and Allied until his retirement at the age of 74. During retirement his daily enjoyment was listening to music, recording movies, and watching his TV ministers.

Precious memories of Spooks will be cherished by his loyal and dedicated companion, Martha Carnell DePriest, whom he lovingly referred to as "His Soul Mate"; two sons, Cedric Nicks of Michigan City and Larry (Ann) Shell of South Bend; four granddaughters, Ingrid (William) Shell-Smith of Kalamazoo, Erin Shell, Demetra Shell and Latrice Nicks (his "Pride and Joy") all of South Bend; four great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; brothers, Lee Nicks of Niles, Charles Seawood of Chicago and Louis Seawood of Benton Harbor; a sister, Pearl Capers of South Bend; god-daughter, Ruby West-Coleman of South Bend; a special niece, Gloria Buckhanon of South Bend; his lifelong friend, Aaron Lowery of South Bend; a dedicated friend, Carrie Parchmon of Niles; a dedicated and loyal caregiver, Alfred "Bubba" Smith of South Bend; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of other family and friends.

Spooks was blessed with an extended loving family who he cherished as well, which includes Tremain Poindexter (son, Xayvion), Christie Guyton (children, Terria, Tyree and Tyah), all of Indianapolis, who he considered grandchildren, and Leona Page of South Bend, who he called niece.

Funeral services for Mr. Cleopher Nicks will be at noon Thursday, April 3, in Faith Apostolic Ministries, with burial following at Highland Cemetery. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the services in the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford's Mortuary where bereavement messages may be sent to alfordsmorutary@comcast.net, c/o: the Nicks family.
