IDA B. (JENNINGS) NEWBORNE

SOUTH BEND - Ida Beatrice (Jennings) Newborne, 72, entered eternal rest at 7:50 a.m. Friday, November 27, 2009, in Healthwin Specialized Care Facility, South Bend. Ida's life began on September 4, 1937, in Hayti, Missouri, when she was born to Chester and Dora (Pool) Jennings.

Moving to South Bend at an early age, Ida attended Washington High School and also IUSB South Bend.

Mother Newborne was currently a member of St. Luke Memorial COGIC where she served as church mother and missionary. She was a former member of Saints Memorial COGIC. She had a special love for children, poetry and singing opera, in addition to being a brilliant cook.

Mother Newborne has left behind a loving family of four daughters, Gay Smith and Zelma Newborne, both of South Bend, Movita Stewart of Seattle, Washington, and Desiree Henderson of Lansing, Illinois; five sons, Keith (Patricia) Jennings and Eric (Robin) Coleman, both of Indianapolis, Indiana, Barry Coleman of Chicago, Illinois, and Todd (Stephanie) Coleman and Carl R. (Raquel) Newborne of South Bend; 25 grandchildren; three sisters, Doris (Melvin) Hiliman, Lois Swedersky and Carrie Jennings, all of South Bend; four brothers, Elder Richard (Debra) Jennings, Clyde Jennings and Chester Jennings, all of South Bend, and Cedric Jennings of Texas; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death along with her parents was a sister, Ruby Preston.

Funeral services for Mother Newborne will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4th, in St. Luke Memorial COGIC, with Pastor Fred Preston officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the services in the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford's Mortuary where messages of condolence may be e mailed to alfordsmortuary@comcast.net.
