ROSE B. (FREITAG) NAGY

Rose B. Nagy Aug. 8, 1926 - June 9, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Our Mom will always be remembered as the true definition of "Mom"... caring, giving and unconditional love to her family. She was, indeed, "a very good Mother." These words, witnessed by all who met her, resonated throughout her life. Rose B. Nagy, 88, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, surrounded by her family. She was born August 8, 1926, blessed as the ninth child to Frank and Mary (Singer) Freitag.

Rose grew up in South Bend, IN, and attended Oliver and St. Mary's of the Assumption grade schools and Washington High School.

When she was 10 years old, she met a young boy named Joe Nagy while swimming at the South Bend Natatorium. Little did she know that he would become the love of her life. Rose and Joe wed on May 10, 1947. They would be husband and wife for over 66 wonderful years.

Over time, Rose proved to be the epitome of "Mom" to her eight children, all surviving: Joseph (Nancy) Nagy, Roseann (Dane) Hamilton, Marian (Ken) Hintz, Ronald Nagy, Jeanie (Scott) Martz, Joanie (Lee) Snyder, Donald (Debbi) Nagy, and Patricia (Bob) Johnson. Also surviving are her sister, Hermina Takacs, sister-in-law, Florence Freitag, 20 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. At the age of 16,

Rose was very active in her children's lives, teaching by example: love for our Lord, patience, teamwork, high ethical work standard, kindness and joyfulness.

Rose was a current member of St. Jude Catholic Church. She was engaged with various functions at Our Lady of Hungary School, the Democratic Club, and bowled weekly at the German Club and later, at Beacon Bowl. Rose loved sports from an early age, pitching for several winning softball teams. She enjoyed Notre Dame football, tailgating with family and friends at both home and away games. She always enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs, golf, horse racing, and tennis. She was an avid casino player every Thursday, feeling like a winner just because she could go. All who met Rose were welcomed and found the love within her heart.

Rose's parents preceded her in death as well as her husband, three sisters, Mary Reiner, Anne Nagy and Josie Chiszar; four brothers, Frank, Carl, Joseph and Herman Freitag; and a grandson, Hal Snyder.
