RONALD D. MEERT

Ronald D. Meert, 79, of South Bend, Indiana passed away at 12:48 p.m., Monday, March 23, 2015 in Memorial Hospital. Ronald was born on February 12, 1936 in South Bend to Louis and Germaine (Beckelandt) Meert, and was a lifelong resident. Ronald retired from the Bendix Corporation where he was employed for 30 years as a Supervisor in the Brake and Steering Department 9A. He had also been employed with the Ferro Corporation in Plymouth for 10 years.

On October 30, 1956 in St. Hedwig Church, he married Germaine A. Nowicki, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Rhonda (Gary) Cox of Elkhart, Indiana, Greg (Margaret) Meert of Mishawaka, Indiana, Randy (Shiela) Meert of Elkhart, Indiana, Ted (Jenny) Meert of Mishawaka, Indiana and David (Denise) Meert of South Bend, Indiana; 22 grandchildren, Alan, Lauren, Kristen (deceased), Natalie, Christopher, Nicole, Tara, Joshua, Erica, Angela, Hannah, Josiah, Audrey, Mary Lyn, Elizabeth, Jeremiah, Jennifer, John, Stephanie, Simone, Eric, Jesika; 15 great-grandchildren, Gabby, Gus, Max, Scarlett, MJ, Michaiah, Theo, Darby, Nevette, Vanna, Weston, Blake, Alexander, Morgan, and Kenny; one sister, Marlene Ogorek of South Bend, Indiana; two brothers, Eugene (Erna) Meert of Elkhart, Indiana and Daniel (Evelyn) Meert of South Bend, Indiana; one aunt, Mege Coddens of South Bend, Indiana; and a special friend, Dorothy "Dot" Hawkins of Plymouth, Indiana.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Germaine (Beckelandt) Meert; 3 sisters, Eleanor Meert, Florence Matthys and Kathleen Sinka; and two brothers, Robert and James Meert.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 27, 2015 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive. A visitation will be held from 2 until 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Ronald was a 1954 graduate of South Bend Washington High School, where he was the class salutatorian. He was a member of the St. Joseph Young Men's Society and the St. Casimir Euchere Club. He was a former baseball coach at Holy Family School and an Umpire in Chief for District 11 Little League. He enjoyed golfing, playing pool and Notre Dame Sports.
