CHARLES J. MCCARTHY

Oct. 24, 1978 - Aug. 4, 2013 SOUTH BEND - Charles James McCarthy, 34, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on August 4 in his home. He was born October 24, 1978, to Edith McCarthy (Shubert) and the late Thomas McCarthy. Loving family members who survive and cherish memories of him include his mother, Edith McCarthy; his daughter, Megyn McCarthy; step-daughter, Taylor Rodick; sister, Monica McCarthy; and fiancée of many years, Shelly Rodick; several aunts and uncles, Mark (Debra) Shubert, Luke (Cindy) Shubert, Judith (Doug) Copeland, Mary Beth McCarthy, James (Marty) McCarthy; and a hosts of cousins. He was preceded in death by grandparents, John (Emercine) Shubert, James Leo (Mary) McCarthy; aunt and uncles, Susan (Jack) Beebe and Ronald DeKerr. Charlie was employed as a maintenance manager for Wissco Irrigation.

He was a graduate of Washington High School and attended Owens Community College in Ohio.

Charlie loved fast mud trucks. He participated in bogs where he took first place many times. He even bought the land to have his own mud bog. He treasured his second home he recently built in the backyard, the "Barn." He looked forward to business adventures with his friends. Charlie loved to spend time with his daughter, Megyn. She was his everything, the light of his life. They would spend hours riding the gator and working in the barn. She was "Daddy's little helper." He had a slew of friends everywhere and loved to talk trucks and tell stories into the wee hours of the morning. He will be missed by all of us!

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2013, in Holy Family Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive.
