SOUTH BEND - South Bend - Rita E. Makowski, 84, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2017 in her home.

Rita was born October 5, 1933 in South Bend to Zygmunt and Marie (Nowicki) Gorney.

On September 12, 1953, Rita married Marion E. Makowski, he preceded her in death on March 11, 2016. Rita was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Walorski; daughter- in- law, Connie Makowski; and a sister, Dorothy Cichowicz.

Survivors of Rita include son, Dale Makowski of Edwardsburg; grandchildren, Ryan (Chris) Makowski of Guam, Kim (Ryan) Hoffman of Santa Monica, CA; great-grandson, Oliver Zubrick; brother, Richard (Judy) Gorney ; son-in-law, David Walorski, sister-in-law, Darlene Holland; brother-in-law, Tim Makowski; nephew, Tim Cichowicz; and many nieces & nephews.

Rita graduated from Washington High School. She retired from the South Bend Tribune in the display advertising department. She was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church. Rita loved traveling, going to the Casino and watching Notre Dame football. She especially loved listening to country music.

Visitation for Rita will take place from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Sunday, November 26, 2017 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. with a Rosary to be prayed at pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Monday, November 27, 2017 In Holy Family Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
