GRANGER - Mrs. Harriet Josephine (Deren) Lehner, 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday in her home with her family by her side.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday in St. Pius X Catholic Church, SR 23 & Fir. Friends may call today from 3-7 p.m. in McGann Hay Funerals | Cremations | Gatherings, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23 (enter off Cherry Road), and one hour prior in church on Monday. Entombment will be at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park Mausoleum.
She was born in South Bend on March 26, 1926, to the late Michael Thomas and Victoria (Olesky) Deren. On April 3, 1948, in South Bend, she married Michael George Lehner. They were married 56 years before his death on November 27, 2004. Surviving are her children, Susan (James) Howard of Princeton, IL, Janet (John) Steed of Katy, TX, and Michael (Cynthia) Lehner of Mishawaka; her siblings, Rosemary (the late Godfrey) Miholich and John (the late Jean) Deren; and 11 grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were a sister, Helen M. (Gene) Boatright, and a brother, M. Thomas (Marcia) Deren.
Harriet was a 1944 graduate of Washington High School and was a member of St. Pius X Parish, the Ladies of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and the Elks Ladies Auxiliary.
During her life she enjoyed bowling, golfing, reading, needle work, gardening, dancing, talking on the phone, and she especially loved caring for her grandchildren.
