BLASÉ "BUCK" LACZAI

MISHAWAKA - Blasé "Buck" Laczai, 86, passed away suddenly on Friday, May 13, 2011. Buck was born on January 20, 1925, in South Bend, as the son of Blasé and Julia (Kovach) Laczai. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Steve Laczai and Joseph Lacay; one sister, Margaret Csereznyak; and a daughter-in-law, Judith Laczai.

On August 3, 1943, while home on leave from the service, he married Martha "Marty" Bethuyne. She survives along with one daughter, Sharon (Dale) Persyn of Mishawaka; one son, Jack Laczai of Mishawaka; five grandchildren, Chad Persyn, Jeff (Nicole) Persyn, Christine Laczai-James, Tricia Laczai and Susan Laczai; and four great-grandchildren, Bailey and Isabella Persyn, Alex and Garrett James.

Buck was employed by the City of Mishawaka as a firefighter for 21 years, retiring in 1968. He then was an insurance adjuster with the Western-Southern Insurance Company for 15 years. Buck also worked in the Hahn Funeral Home for 20 years.

He was a graduate of South Bend Washington High School and had lived in Mishawaka for 68 years. He was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church, the DeAmicis Club, The B-K Club where he served on the board of directors, Eagles Lodge, A.A.R.P., VFW Post 360, and the retired Police and Fireman Association. Buck was also a veteran of WW II, serving as a Marine in the South Pacific. He loved hunting, fishing and golfing, having achieved a hole-in-one. He was one of the original members of the "West Enders" golf group, playing every Sunday. Buck built the house where he and the love of his life raised their family. One of the kindest people you could ever meet, when Buck had to be somewhere he was always on time or early.

Visitation for Buck will be on Monday from 3-7 in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th St., Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Bavo Catholic Church, with the Rev. Barry England officiating. Entombment will be at Fairview Cemetery, where military honors will be rendered by VFW Post 360 and American Legion Post 161. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Association or to St. Bavo Catholic Church.
